Fairicube is excited to play a pivotal role in the upcoming I-ADOPT Observable Property Workshops, which aim to enhance the interoperability of observable variables within the scientific community. Developed by the RDA I-ADOPT Working Group, this framework was endorsed by the RDA in 2022 and is currently being evaluated for its potential to extend the OGC Observations, Measurements, and Samples (OMS) model, a significant step towards becoming an international standard.
In early 2025, Fairicube, along with other key stakeholders—including the OGC OMS Working Group, NASA Langley Research Center, the INFRA-EOSC FAIR2Adapt project, and the EuroGEO Action Group on the Green Deal Data Space—will participate in collaborative modelling workshops. These workshops will focus on applying the I-ADOPT model with real monitoring datasets, testing its practical implementation and identifying areas for improvement.
The workshops will feature three distinct scenarios:
- Essential Biodiversity Variable Observation – Led by the AD4GD Horizon project.
- Emission Measurement – A joint effort by NASA Langley Research Center and WMO.
- Climate Adaptation Scenario – Under the FAIR2Adapt project.
These scenarios will be modeled in two intensive two-day workshops, where representatives, modelers, and framework creators will collaborate to develop FAIR representations using the integrated OMS and I-ADOPT model. The goal is to refine the framework to support the interoperability of time series observation data effectively.
By the end of these workshops, a Sensor Things API (STA) instance enriched with I-ADOPT concepts will be available, allowing participants to experiment with the extended OMS system. Feedback from this process will be crucial in addressing any bottlenecks and improving the frameworks, paving the way for I-ADOPT to achieve the status of an international standard—a milestone in the journey towards more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data practices.
Fairicube is proud to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative, which aligns with our commitment to fostering data interoperability and advancing global research capabilities. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of these workshops and the evolution of data standards that they will help shape.
